Revelation

Isaiah 6: 1-8
Isaiah's Cleansing and Call
It was in the year King Uzziah dieds that I saw the Lord. He was sitting on a lofty throne, and the train of his robe filled the Temple. Attending him were mighty seraphim, each having six wings. With two wings they covered their faces, with two they covered their feet, and with two they flew. They were calling out to each other,

"Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of Heaven's Armies!
The whole earth is filled with his glory!"

Their voices shook the Temple to its foundations, and the entire building was filled with smoke.

Then I said, "It's all over! I am doomed, for I am a sinful man. I have filthy lips, and I live among a people with filthy lips. Yet I have seen the King, the Lord of Heaven's Armies."

Then one of the seraphim flew to me with a burning coal he had taken from the altar with a pair of tongs. He touched my lips with it and said, "See, this coal has touched your lips. Now your guilt is removed, and your sins are forgiven."

Then I heard the Lord asking, "Whom should I send as a messenger to this people? Who will go for us?"
I said, "Here I am. Send me."

I'm reading a book called Crazy Love and hit the passage and it brought back good memories.

Many many years ago, I shared from Isaiah 6 at church. I had the task of opening the service with a scripture. Many times I just said stuff. But one weekend I had read this and it was burning in me. I guess because like Isaiah, I often felt insignificant to be a messenger.

Sometimes it takes tragedy like a death of someone we care about to wake us up to the fact that this life is not the end state. To remind us that we need to have an eternal perspective not just a 60-80 year mentality.

Isn't it weird how in times of difficulty we turn to God? But often we don't stay long enough to experience what Isiah saw. He received a revelation of how big and awesome God is and how he pales in comparison to that. I so need that perspective. God is great but am I believing it in my priorities?

Although God is great and we are insignificant, He cares about us individually to cleanse us and bring us into a restored relationship with Him. He doesn't want a Sunday relationship with us, but He wants us to share our lives with Him. Although we cannot reach Him on our own terms, He meets us where we are at.

But he doesn't leave us there. He wants to transform us as we acknowledge our need for something greater than us. Our need for forgiveness. However, not so we can wallow in our pity or what we should have done. But so we can take on the mission of showing His love in spite of our weaknesses and failures.

We have probably all been guilty of taking our relationship with Christ for granted or becoming too familiar with Him but not trying to know Him. I know I have (and do). It's part of my distractable brain. But if we would just put the toys away for a bit. And seek Him and ask Him to make a difference in our lives, I bet He would. After all He suffered and died to meet you.
